History of the MKII Hart Walker

The MKII Hart Walker was developed by bio-engineer David Hart in the mid 1980’s to address the needs of those in the pediatric population lacking independent mobility. The walker combines a bracing system used to promote proper body alignment with a walking base. Elastic chords are added to achieve an alternating walking pattern and can be adjusted to address unbalanced muscle abilities. The walker has many growth adjustments in the bracing system as well as in the walking base. The base has four wheels to start but can be changed to a two wheeled base to no base at all as balance and function improve.

 Benefits

By providing the opportunity for afflicted children to be upright and moving on their own, bone density, internal functions, muscle strength and circulation have been seen to improve. The most significant achievement, however, remains the child’s independence to participate in activities with their family and friends. Read some parent Testimonials.

 Appropriate candidates

For the most benefits of the MKII Hart Walker the child must be able to initiate a stepping motion. Alignment of the legs and torso is done with the bracing system while balance is addressed with the base.
